And I know it ain't Madonna. I've always found the collection of photos framing Jim's discussion page fascinating. I pretty well recognize what and who the majority of them are but one in particular has me puzzled and it's driving me nuts. It's the girl on the bicycle. She appears on the left side of the page, 6th photo down, right below Brando. She also appears on the left above the last photo, again under Brando, left of James Arness as The Thing From Another World at the bottom. Don't know who she is but she looks like she may have bangs so my guess is Bettie Page. Anybody know?

For me, it was TDPRI/PRRI video/Orange.

I think I read about Jim on the TDPRI (Telecaster Discussion Page ReIssue) forum. (I've been a tele guy for a very long time). Someone posted that FAMOUS video of Jim playing the new PRRI. I was instantly hooked. And it was right around the time of Orange, so Orange was my 1st Campy album. Double-hooked!

I now have them all, of course. And not only is it a wonderful library of work, but actually quite diverse, when you compare Orange to Table for One to Cats stuff to Little Willies. Jim was my introduction to "hillbilly jazz" (I knew about it, but didn't own or listen to it, other than through Wayne Hancock, who always has stellar guitar players, like Dave Biller and Eddie Beibel, Paul Skelton)...

Since finding Jim, my collection of hillbilly jazz (Jimmy Bryant, Jimmie Rivers, etc) has grown, as well as my western swing collection. I wonder if Jim did much listening to Bob Wills? I know he listened to the others of the era: George Barnes, etc.

Interestingly, I have not yet gotten into Roy. IDK why. Several times I've gone to listen to him, and occasionally find a gem that I love, but haven't bought any yet... maybe I'm just not "ready" for Roy at this point?

NEW! VIDEO LESSON BY MAIL - AUTUMN LEAVES CHORD MELODY
Video recorded in a basic front one shot here from my Brooklyn apartment - Autumn Leaves Chord Melody demonstrates a chord melody that can work as a solo guitar piece, or function perfectly in a group context. Also included is an arrangement of walking bass with jazz chords that is reminiscent of a organ comp. After you master the walking bass it’s likely the “walking bass” can be applied to hundreds of standards. It’s a fun lesson and Autumn Leaves Chord Melody would be a great addition to your repertoire. $30

Are there any tele players out there that use a Bigsby?

I'm working on some Chet stuff and would like to get some vibrato going, but don't want to buy a new guitar right now. I also like the idea of staying on one guitar. I also saw Bill Frisell's Surfer Girl on youtube...

The big downside seems to be access to tone swells.

Opinions/comments?

Also, for those that have done it, I think these are the things I need. I'm also open to opinions on this. (e.g. I'm buying the right/wrong stuff, better ideas on a seller?)

Hi Everyone,

Some months ago I started this project for a new Tele, heavily inspired in Jim's famous 59, and in this forum's great information.

So I got this MJT body (swamp ash) with light relic. A roasted maple (unfinished) neck, from Allparts. I put in a five Truoil passes with a rag, and light sanding in between. The neck feels very nice, not sticky and very woody. I live in Buenos Aires, where the humidity is around 70-90 % most days, and this neck behaves great, with no noticeable movement.

Glendale neck plate, jack and double cut bridge, toplader of course! (with Wilkinson compensated saddles). Gotoh tuners. Bone nut.

Electronics: 4 way switch set by Emerson (the volume and tone controls are super light responsive, great for trying Jim's swells). Just switched the Nocasters and put a set of Curtis Novaks pickups, I asked Curtis for Jim's sound (specially the non-icepick bridge sound), and he sent me these JC pickus. Curtis really nailed it, the bridge pickup is incredible, very warm. I now love to play in the middle position, it sounds amazing.

Some pics here. Hope you like it!

Hi gang!

I've been trying to record a demo of my Model C, and I wanted to use a looper, like Jim does on his demos, but I'm having trouble getting it right.

I'm using a TC Electronics Ditto v.1: any tips?

How many people have gotten this lesson? I just did and, as usual, its great! I recommend you do. Did anyone notice a potential mistake (or maybe the intonation on my ears and/or Tele are askew). I'm referring to the double stop descent right at the end of the "B" section before the "A3" section starts. It seems to my ears (when playing with the recording and with the lesson) that that last double stop in the last two diagrams of "B" does not happen on the third and fourth fret but rather the second and third fret (the beginning note closest to the nut is my reference- it covers lots of frets). Am I way off? Has anyone ran into this? Everything else ( as one would imagine) seems spot on.

Thanks!

I love pedal steel. Jim's ability to bend notes in a lot of steel-like ways is a big part of his appeal for me.
Joe Goldmark was in the 10-gallon Cats with Jim for many years. He's still playing in the area and I get to hear him with the Seducers pretty often. I heard them at the book store last week and picked up Joe's new CD. My favorite track is #12, "I Want to Be With You Forever", by guest artist Jim Campilongo! It reminds me of the one lesson I bought here, Country Soul, a classic country shuffle tune with lots of string bends.

I've been working my way through the Charlton Johnson book on Freddie Green style comping ("Swing and Big Band Guitar: Four-To-The Bar Comping in the Style of Freddie Green") off and on for a while, and I'm familiar with a fair number of these forms and their use. Those who know the book and Jim's lesson- should I get Jim's lesson as well? Or should I move on to something else?

I just went though the audio for the first time and have a question that isn't too silly but....Jim keeps mentioning chords with various notes "on top". I'm not seeing it. I thought he meant the lowest note but that doesn't work. What am I mission? Thanks, Dan
