Which lesson for country?

Hi all,

I was asked to play lead guitar in a one-off Johnny Cash tribute for a benefit concert. Obviously I will sit down and learn Luther Perkins´parts by ear, but this will be my first time playing country in a band. I thought this would be a good time to dig in deeper into the art of country guitar via a lesson from Jim in addition to learning the Cash songs.

I have finished the Working Man lesson, and enjoyed it thoroughly. It would be fun to get a mixture of rhythm and lead ideas in a musical context. There are many interesting options: Too Far Gone, Crazy, Sweet Dreams, Lonesome Fugitive and so on that I am unsure what to get.

What lesson would the people here recommend?

  • Hi,

All of those are great! Also try STEEL GUITAR LICKS & BEYOND LESSON & COUNTRY LEAD IN G. This is an amazingly helpful lesson.

  • I offer a second on Country Lead in G. - Great for seeing country vocabulary - and what shapes improv can take in a country music context. You'll love it.
  • Alright, I will get Country Lead in G next thanks to your recommendations. I´m thinking that 2012 might shape out to be the year of country for me, and I will focus on country-themed lessons from Jim.
