WES MONTGOMERY LICK IN D
Wes Montgomery pioneered the use of octaves while picking with his right-
hand thumb. He was supposedly inspired to play octaves by the great Django
Reinhardt. Montgomery also played melodic minor ideas that brought post-
bop electric guitar to a new level. The blues phrase introduced in this
tip is inspired by the track "D-Natural Blues" from The Incredible Jazz
Guitar Of Wes Montgomery (Fantasy, 1987, originally released in 1960). Be
sure to lean your first finger over the string you aren't playing in
order to mute it. Fingering: 1-4, 1-4, 1-4, 1-4, 1-4, 1-3, 1-3, 1-3, 1-3,
1-3. In the fingering notation, a dash between numbers indicates that
they are played simultaneously. In the tab notation, (s) indicates a
slide.
