The tone knob swell...

So yeah, for anyone who is daunted by this idea....it is very easy to pull off and use effectively. Last year, when I caught that video of Jim and Justin Sandercoe, where Jim really broke down the swell technique....he was just so right on. It's not really all that difficult once you get the motion down. I use it in my songwriting now! Super cool. Sometimes the volume swell too, but only if I'm doing something solo.

  • It's fun! I was actually just thinking, about a day or so ago, that reversing the plate on my #2 Tele was actually a bad idea- after re-watching that interview, watching Jim do tone swells, I realized that having the tone knob in the middle is only marginally helpful, and only if you're trying to just use your pinky- and it doesn't really work well that way. Also, the switch gets in the way when it's set on the neck pickup...think I'll put back 'round the "right" way soon.
  • Yup...I tried reversing too. Bleh!! It's pretty easy to reach that tone knob when it's behind!
