A few weeks ago I got a great '66 Fender Princeton Reverb that sounds stunning. It's in great shape and all oryginal. It even has the Jensen 10N speaker.
Im wondering... Did you change all the electrolitic caps in your amp? I've read it should be done in 46 yo amp but Im a bit worried it may change the tone...
What's your opinion and experience on that topic?

I just got 66 princeton too. If yours sounds great I wouldn't change anything until it doesn't sound good.

Mine was a lemon when I got it so I swapped tubes, speakers and had the board re-soddered. If you go to a good tech you should be able to play for them so they know your style and tell them what your looking for.

My skinny fingers are naturally trebly so most decisions were based around getting a darker tone. I also wanted the most headroom I could get so that was a guiding force.

I think each of us is so unique that you gotta do a little exploring and see what works for your style.

I'm sure Jim came to his current tube/speaker/bias decisions through a lot of exploring.
