Just got my first Tele

edited April 2013 in General
Hey all. I've just become the proud owner of my first ever Tele. It's a 1985 MIJ 62 reissue in Candy Apple Red! 3 way selector and 7.25 radius rosewood board. And it's a beauty. I'll admit to being inspired to Tele sounds from listening to Jim but what is surprising to me is just how resonant it is unplugged! I'm genuinely surprised and impressed. My EC strat is nowhere near as vibrant. Problem is its 10pm here in the UK and Mrs Convert is in bed, unwell. SO I CAN'T PLUG IT IN UNTIL TOMORROW! MAN! Hopefully the pickups will have aged gracefully. Now to start saving for a real 50s beauty.

  • Hi Convert
That's funny, Ive been playing an 1985 MIJ Tele in black w/maple board. I had it re fretted and after experimenting with a few pickup swaps I have found the original Pups
to be not that bad at all and might reinstall them ultimately.
for now I'm quite enjoying an Esqire electronics set up with a lollar in the bridge (only one pickup) position.

  • Congrats!

In high school I started playin guitar by sneaking my sisters mij tele to the basement when she wasn't home. Wish she hasn't sold it!
  • Awesome! Those early 80's MIJ Tele's are really great! I foolishly sold a '85 Sunburst Double Bound Telecaster. My friend Tom Short wound a set of pickups for me for it. Wish I could get that and my '55 Thin Skin Telecaster back :(
  • lectroshave did you refret to taller/wider frets or stay vintage?
