Jim show last night

edited June 2013 in General
Caught part of Jim's show last night and it was just totally smokin. Have seen him quite a few times (maybe 20) but last night he was really on "auto pilot" and even commented a few times he was feeling good comin in...and wow did they come it hot! Jim seemed very happy with the show and seemed at times to be as blown away with the band as the audience was. I have seen a lot of shows before but yesterday was truly something special. Jim didnt use any pedals and I had to ask him if that was the original 50's tele (yes) and "is that a tone knob?" (Yes). Because I am just convinced no other tele has that tone. (He said he uses the reissue a lot though so it must sound the same)I was amazed at how hard he was wailing on the vintage axe, just punishing the tuners and all the hardware, the body and neck alike. Wow I guess they built them to last in the 50's. if I played my guitar that way the neck would be about as straight as the cross bronx expressway. Anyway They did some new tunes from Dream Dictionary, some stuff off Orange, a crazy version of Folsom prison blues that almost started off as "twister" instead, a heavy dose of what I think is "back burner" and just full sets of nailing everything. Was surprised to see the bass guitar and not the stand up, and wow was it nasty. An old fender mustang bass just getting dominated by Chris Morrissey. Josh Dion on the drums was right there with them too. I got some great videos (and have some older ones too). I can post them here once I upload them, as long as that is cool (anyone know if that's cool?). Jim if u are reading this it's Eric, we've met a few times. Thanks for being so cool and all the shows, many of which are no cover. Gonna try to make it to the current living room one or two more times before they move. Cheers! And sorry for any typos I am limited to my phone/at work

  • Jim, I'd be curious to hear why you've gone the electric bass route. I love the sound, and of course I've always love the upright as well, just curious ;)

  • Jim, thanks so much for the very kind words, green light on the vids, and the set list! I apologize for mixing up the song titles. pretty sure American Hips is the one I had confused for Backburner while at the show. One other (insignificant) note on the set list, you must have played Hamster Wheel prior to Cry Me a River; unless my camera is traveling thru time again (would definitely not be the first time).

Unfortunately the traffic that day was pretty brutal. I was amazed we even arrived at 6:30, heard the end of Helen Keller walking in...but did not start recording until Tony Mason. I have all of set 2 and as you know had to leave after that. Sorry to miss out on the opening tunes (and the closing ones) but I still think the vids I have captured the spirit of the evening. I can post a bunch of them here or start a new thread just for "Jim Videos" as there are many many others out there worthy of finding a home on your forum, in addition to anything I have. I'm maybe halfway thru uploading and editing the 6-9-13 videos and will start posting them at some point today. I will also go back and edit a few previous ones on my computer (but all the super smokin stuff has already been shared). I'm not going to overload your forum with videos but I did start an open youtube playlist for you a while back. I will post the link here when I get home.
  • here is the link to my "Jim Playlist" -which I need to update and supplement with other fan videos from other cities. I have a few in mind, and suggestions are certainly welcome!

    and a few from Sunday:
