The Prettiest Girl question

edited July 2013 in Root
Jim, I picked this lesson up a few weeks ago and have made my way through all the different sections. It's a great lesson and fun to play but the one part I struggle with is that descending doublestop cascade. In the lesson you mention that you keep your 3rd (ring) finger on the B string (at least that's the way I interpreted it) throughout the entire descension. I basically play it with my first finger on the E string and my ring finger on the B string all the way down. Maybe I just need to play it 1000 more times to make it smooth but I'm wondering if you switch in your middle finger at all during the descent.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! And another great show in Marlboro the other night.

  • It's played exactly as written in the tab ...

Thanks for ordering the lesson, keep practicing!
  • Ok, I feel a little silly now. I went back to the lesson and it was clearly indicated in your tab. I think when I was learning that song, during that section I took my mind off the tab diagrams for a while and was listening primarily to your audio commentary. Must have had one of those mind-freezes where I forgot that the fingerings were all right there on the diagrams. Won't make that mistake again. Well, now the fun part begins of trying to retrain my brain to play those doublestops a different way!

Thanks. Looking forward to pulling the trigger on another lesson soon.
  • You are welcome - thanks again for ordering the lesson!
  • I really like this lesson. There is a lot of challenging (at least for me) sections that force me fingers to do things they aren't accustomed to doing. I tend to use this song as a warm up for practice. I figure if I can make it through this one with only a few flubs I'll be fine. Still can't play it at full speed though and I've been working on it for over a year.
