Questions for Jim: Rest Stroke and Composition

I'm curious whether you use the rest stroke when you use a pick. I'm also interested to know if you follow a routine when you're composing, or do you wait for the mood to strike, as it were?

I try to find a balance between practice, homework and composing- usually dictated by what I am committed to -a new album, a sideman gig, a solo guitar show -etc...
