Hi Everyone & A Question

edited September 2015 in Root
Hello All! I recently discovered this forum after coming across some amazing Youtube videos of Jim and after reading through many of the discussions I had to join. I'm impressed with the quality and variety of the conversations and hope to contribute as much as I can.
I'm based here in NYC and I hope to catch some of Jim's shows soon so I can witness his talent first hand.
I've been playing guitar on and off for over 35 years and I've recently picked it up again after a bit of a hiatus and quickly realized how much I love playing. I'm starting to get my chops back and I've come to realize how much material I've forgotten. I am learning to play some of Jim's material by ear and will buy some lessons to see how accurate I am.
It seems over the years I've sold or given away my music books and I'm now looking at rebuilding my library. So my question is what do members here recommend as far as song books and jazz fake books? I have looked at The Real Book series and will order one but I'm looking for other suggestions as well.
BTW I play a Les Paul but I do plan on buying a Telecaster in the future. And maybe even a Princeton :)
Regards,
Tom

    Welcome to the forum Tom!
I like the Jim Grantham Real Book. Jim is a horn player in San Francisco who wrote his own book that has great tunes, with good, no frills changes. I like the Grantham book because the tunes are tunes one actually plays, like "Stardust", "Up a Lazy River", "Girl from Ipanema" etc - instead of Fusion tunes that are an exercise in transcription. But I'm sorry, I don't know how to find that book for you.
Again, thanks for writing and have a great day - Jim
