new american standard Telecaster

edited March 2012 in General
So Fender is upgrading the american standard tele with belly cuts and new pickups.
What do you guys think of it? The last upgrade was in 2008 i believe.

  • I guess the pickups are "better".

The contour I am not sure is a good thing, sounds like an 80s move to me.

But I hate the modern bridge, so I don't care either which way.

  • I'm all for modifications & progress but why not just get a strat if you want the "belly cuts"...just sayin'
  • The contour cuts definitely make for more comfortable playing, though many will argue the cuts will funndamentally change the guitar's tone. As far as the new bridge goes, I like it...it's heavier for better resonance, and the sharp ashtray edges are gone, what's not to like? Aftermarket guys like Callaham, Glendale, and Rutters have made bridges with varying degress of "missing edge" and heavier "cold rolled" steel for many moons now...
