  • Hi, I've been visiting the forum for awhile, but finally joined because I felt compelled to throw in two cents about a greatest hits type of LP. Jim, as a fan of records and a fan of your playing, I would much rather see a new album be made available on vinyl rather than a compilation.

Even if you just did a short run if would be great. Hand-numbered, limited edition, colored vinyl, hand-printed covers.., it all adds up to a beautiful package, and we haven't even gotten to the music yet.

I know many bands today that press runs as small as 100-300, and they are still able to sell them at a reasonable price. Just something to think about. Thanks!
  • Thank you Tony ... and everyone. We are looking into vinyl and might have something soon. Personally, as a vinyl guy, I can't wait.
  • Whoa, that is awesome. I promise, whatever you release, I will buy. I just put a new set of tweeters in my Klipsch Fortes, and they've made a good set of speakers absolutely come alive. A well-recorded well-mastered record now sounds like musicians in my living room. The way your records have been recorded - especially some of the later ones like Heaven is Creepy, American Hips, and of course Orange - they already sound pretty live in digital form, but I can only imagine how they'd sound if they were all analog.
  • thank you sir
  • You're welcome, Jim.

Slight tangent, but a bunch of friends I used to play in this really amazing band with would get together from time to time for what we called a "Choice Cuts" party. This was basically a show-and-tell record listening party. Everyone would take turns playing a song for the group, and the rules were pretty simple: 1) no setup or introduction or anything - just drop the needle and play the song, and 2) nobody talks while the song plays. After each tune, we'd sit and discuss. We didn't restrict ourselves to vinyl only, although most of the tunes did end up coming from records.

Anyway, the first time we did this, I was racking my brains for the perfect song to drop on these folks... and earlier that day it finally came to me - Mr. and Mrs. Mouse. I went first, so it was the first track we heard that night, and no setup allowed, nobody knew what they were about to hear. I wish I had a camera with me that night to capture these absolutely monster players and the flabbergasted expressions on their faces. Everyone was absolutely blown away by the creativity of the writing, the arrangement, the dynamics, and of course the playing. It's a nice memory to have attached to that song - those parties were a blast.
  • That is a really nice story Atom... thank you

  • WOW! 55K!!!!

Maybe the bank could give me a mortgage for that one. :)

  • That free shipping - hmmm...that may be the tipping point.

I live not far from this store. It's a really nice store - I've never bought anything other than strings there. It's fun to look - and see what these $50k guitars look like up close.

Here's another guy - he may as well be selling oil wells as far as I am concerned - stuff so out of reach...

  • fascinating!
  • He does have a '59 Telecaster for $28k. I bet you could chisel him down to $26k and get free shipping.
