  • Bill Doggett Quaker City ...
I would say this is Bill Jennings on guitar, not Billy Butler of "Honky Tonk" fame....
I've been revisiting Bill Jennings for about a month now and he sounds better and better and better.
My version of "Quaker City" is from "Hot Doggett". This version sounds remastered for CD (with a bit too much reverb added, compared to my version anyway)
Check out the first line of the guitar solo - It's a pretty and elegant entrance.

  • Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but that Quaker City track is amazing. I didn't know Bill Jennings until I came across the name in the list of Jim's lessons. Awesome! I hope this becomes a lesson some day. :-)

I have it in tab ... duly noted!

    Thanks! - Jim

  • I just did some reading on Bill Jennings... he apparently played on most of Louis Jordan's stuff. I am a HUGE Louis Jordan fan!!!

Stumbled onto this, no doubt worth getting!! image

This I do offer as a "Lesson by Mail" ... great track

Bill Jennings' Solo on Bill Doggett's "Big Boy" A must hear Blues meets Jazz solo. This is the second recorded version of "Big Boy" (Key of Ab) that features the genius of guitarist Bill Jennings. Mr Jennings superimposes jazz changes over I, IV, V. These lines can be internalized and easily applied on any blues format

  • Nice! I'm considering this one after I finish Playing the Blues: Nailing the Changes, and Blues in Bb.
