I have had a G and L one for the past 5 years. Its the best. It has a hook built in on top so you can hang it up in your closet. Lots of space for books in the front.
So maybe a Fender thermometer case like the the old ones could be more practical than these big gig bags. Does anyone of you have experience with them? The standard rectangular case is just too big in many situations.
i like the Gator "lightweight guitar case." don't let the generic name fool you, they are made for Teles. and I imagine a Strat fits in there as well. a Gibson won't fit...Gator has different cases for Gibsons.
It is the rectangle case but not a "standard" one. it's the EPS Foam one (hard/soft with nylon exterior and a zipper instead of hardware. super lightweight but essentially a hard case not a soft one). you can't fold it up like a gig bag, but I got it to protect my guitar not save on space.
it's the Gator "GL-Electric" (Guitar Lightweight Electric).
my gf has the bass guitar version of the same thing for a P-bass, now that is starting to get up there in size! but the guitar one is fine. standard size but light as a feather and has a shoulder strap so when you pick it up it's not too bad at all. mine is not a back pack but they may have that option now. i just go rambo style/shoulder strap or hold it with the suitcase handle since its so light anyway. no issues yet and the only real problem i could foresee is potentially maybe one day hopefully very very far from now, if at all, that zipper hypothetically could break. so i'm careful with it but it seems solid and durable. if the zipper ever breaks i'll just use straps or a belt for it, since it's a hard case u can do that. and since it's nylon I could even sew on some belt loops to the outside, but the chances of that day coming are pretty slim. cheers.

The grain of the leather looks beautiful, and I'm a sucker for cowhide.
