At the very beginning of the interview, you're playing... I hear an effect... I thought it was a rotary/leslie... perhaps a chorus? Flanger? Sort of a mild "under water" sounding thing... please don't tell me that was just you bending the neck and moving the strings!!! I'll have to turn my tele into a coffee table!
I knew that is a trick you do particularly well, I'm just shocked at HOW well- in the beginning of that video, it seems more pronounced than I've ever heard you do it before.
Hey, I don't know if that technique is anything that could be taught, or tips given, in a lesson, but it would be cool thing to teach... if it's "teachable".... I've tried to do it, and when I do it, it just sounds like the guitar is out of tune, lol It's really a beautiful sound.
Jim, you mentioned James Burton in the interview. Could you please tell us what your favorite James Burton recordings are? I always liked his work on the first few Emmylou Harris records. Is there anything you or the other members could recommend?
Great interview! I love this stuff! Honestly, some of the coolest things about it were just things in the room. The cat was cool (I'm a new cat owner), the vintage rotary phone like I had when I was a kid, and the awesome turntable setup.
