LESSON HELP: Pat & Patsy or I Gotta Get Drunk?
Hi y'all,
After promising myself I wouldn't begin a new song/lesson until I felt versatile enough on "Awful Pretty Pretty Awful", I'm ready for a new one! I'm adamant on working on my lead playing, and as much fun as it is to learn new licks, and fast solos, I'm wondering which of these lessons would be more appropriate for someone who wants to internalize the concepts Jim uses to compose, and play over the changes? I'd like to apply what I learn from these lessons into my own lead playing, and was wondering if Jim goes into any detail about application in different musical contexts? I know Jim does in all his lessons, but maybe one lesson is more lick based while the other is more "theory", for lack of a better word. I'll just say, I absolutely love "Heavy", and am ecstatic Jim has taken the time to produce so many lessons from that album. A masterpiece in my opinion.
Btw, Jim's playing in this video is making me lean toward "IGGD". Awesome!

Wow- that's a crazy Willies clip... I remember that night as special!
Since "Pat & Patsy" was more of a worked out solo then the totally improvised "Gotta Get Drunk", there is a more structured foundation making it a bit easier to teach and learn -for that reason, if I had to pick, I'd suggest "Pat & Patsy".
"All Blues" covers a ton of scales and "How's It Goin" covers a large gamut of style.

My friend greg and I made the trek to NYC for a guitar filled weekend. That was the first night I met Jim. Very special indeed.
I'd lean toward Pat & Patsy, (love that track) but I'll never be able to play that cleanly in a million years.
