"Don't Sell Stuff" ? hmmm...
I've been debating this "rule" since our little forum began. I didn't want posts corrupted with commercialism - but then I'm on Ebay daily. Basically gear for sale, can be fun.
And now I'm leaning towards private parties selling their gear- and hopefully with good grace and happy endings.
I don't think the occasional post regarding selling is a big deal.
What do you think, fellow members?
All the best and happy 4th! -Jim

But there are concerns, and this forum is a special place for what it is now. Perhaps partly because there is none of that, specifically. Jim there is no wrong decision but maybe just think back to the reasons you made the rule in the first place, before you change it. Maybe there is some middle ground where we could have a "WTB" section where you just post what you are in the market for and your personal email address/contact info outside the forum. Then if anyone is selling that, or knows of one for sale or sees one in their local city/Craigslist whatever...they can contact that individual outside the forum if they choose to.
It could work out here on the forum, but you are going to get at least a handful of new members just looking to sell things. Whether they play along on some other unrelated threads or not...and separate from that the logistics are a concern inherently. The forum might be more pure without it. Just my opinion. Everyone seems so unbiased about everything right now.
Jim if you personally have stuff for sale, or want to post something you know of for sale, from one of your sources...I don't think anyone would have a problem with that! I'm sure u have a ton of amps that come and go, separate from those on your gear page. Let em luce!
It's nice that it's a small community here. t makes it more enjoyable for those of us that are in the loop. But that's a bit of a selfish viewpoint.
You could also say that the influx of people will be a good way to get outside people who may not have heard of Jim before to hear about him. Stop in to check out a piece of gear for sale, end up wandering the forum, watch a few Campy videos, buy a CD, and then they're hooked. Then they'll need some Lessons by Mail to go with the guitar they just bought.
No harm in trying it and seeing how it goes. If it gets too crazy or too much hassle for the moderator, no more selling stuff.
Small stuff like tuning keys and vintage style reverb cables I sell on ebay cuz they're easy to ship. But if it's big stuff I don't like to pack and ship it........so most larger items I sell on Craigs List so the buyers come to me, that's were I listed the amps. I see some sites that sell stuff and it's like a junk store in print.....I think the "Weber" site is like that. If the stuff is high quality, rare.....or precious treasure.........why not?
When I come to this site its not to buy anything. It's to check out the happenings get some feed back and maybe bounce an idea or just BS.
Best,
Kenneth Harper
One thing I like here the best is its all about the music, that's everyone's only agenda here
I could see a cool wildcard thing though, where Jim maybe lists some select things of his own, or from the shops and technicians /other musicians he is
associated with. Some other bands do that sort of thing, in one form or another
I don't think you would have a problem here. However, it might be nice if we could have a separate section for it... like a sub-forum, that way, it can be "policed" on it's own, away from the main discussion forum, and if one doesn't want to go look at gear for sale (why the hell WOULDN'T you?!?! lol), one wouldn't have to.
But I ask you: where better to sell a Tele or a Princeton?!?! (especially a JC tele or orange tolex Princeton)
And while I can't imagine Jim's going to kick it off by posting a heavily worn, "undesirable" top loading Tele as the first item for sale, you never know what kind of cool stuff could show up here, especially if some of his NYC musician buddies get involved.
I think we all enjoy the member's only country club vibe here, but I think it's also important that Jim's site gets as much attention as possible. Like morroben said earlier, if more people visit the site, even if it's just to sell something, maybe in the end that yields a few more Jim fans. More attention/commerce for Jim is a good thing as we need this guy to keep doing his thing as long as possible! It's certainly worth a try, and as was said before, if it gets out of hand, the plug can simply be pulled.
I'll put it on the backburner (pun intended) for now. I'm thinking- when in doubt, don't! But I'll be thinking about it. Feel free to chime in any other thoughts.
Thanks -Jim
On the other hand I think some of the gear reviews/discussions are here have been interesting.
