  • That was fun! Which guitar was that?
  • Looks like his old one to me, but with a rosewood neck!!! Man, has that guitar seen some miles....

It's my '59, same neck - and I still have that suit too! ha ha

It was fun to see this clip and it brought back good memories of that great band. Thanks for posting. I think there might be other video from that era but this is the lone song published from a 50 minute set from an obscure public television show based in Berkeley, Calif.

It's interesting to me that some folks (especially here in NYC) have no idea I played in a group that wasn't a trio!

If anyone is interested, we made three records that I'm still quite proud of - "Jim Campilongo and the 10 Gallon Cats", Jim Campilongo and the 10 Gallon Cats "Loose" and Jim Campilongo and the 10 Gallon Cats "Heavy".

To continue- I am planning a KickStarter drive to fund a recording in November to revisit some older Campilongo originals and some new material in the spirit of the "Cat's". I'll be recording with Jonny Lam, Luca Benedetti, David Speranza, Roy Williams and Russ Meissner.

It's amazing to me that we are playing some material I wrote 20 years ago!

    Take care- Jim

pretty sure it's the '59, but yeah it's the same one as on the Loose album cover which I'd not seen in years since all the old CDs I ripped years ago and stashed away.

of course Jim is tearing it up. but that band was also seriously killing! better than coffee to wake you up.

this is another old one I found.
  • oh hey Jim! that's great info! and I'll be looking out for your kickstarter too. good to know.

yeah there's some great older footage shot in a pool hall like above. a great one of Harlem Nocturne and others.
  • Yeah- I'm in on the kickstarter... love the 'Cats stuff!
  • Thanks for posting these clips. I especially love "In A Sentimental Mood." As one YouTube commenter posted, "So beautiful it hurts!"
  • Jim, do you think you'll ever record with the Cat's again? The chemistry between you, and Joe is grand!
  • I love all three Cats releases, and it will be great now to have the amazing Fingers on record too.
Kickstarter, count me in! Phil too! (you're welcome, Phil)

Kickstarter! Great, count me in! I'd love to see a new Campy record every year, and with all the different bands, there certainly should be material to record, if only the publishing and all that bureaucracy/crazy were not the hassle they are.

  • Actually, speaking of some manic Campilongo of the 90s... that kind of stuff was the reason I was worried that I would not like Campilongo, it was worried it were too far out for my ears. I had only heard some of the outtakes on this site, basically, when a friend asked me to join him in Jamsa (Finland) in August 2003, for the fellow TDPRIer Mr Campilongo's gig. Seeing it all live, it certainly clicked and have been a fan ever since!
