Prettiest Girl in New York question

edited September 2014 in Root
I'm working on this lesson now. such a beautiful piece.

OK, so what Jim refers to as the "Open String Phrase" is that descending open D-Maj scale.

my question is on timing. And forgive my terrible lack of proper theory.

The descending scale feels a little brisker than the "rock Guy" A chord that returns to D at the end. The descending scale feels like it's in triplets to the beat, and then retards to a slower more relaxed ascending "rock guy" section.

does any of this make sense? any insight? I just started this today, so invariably, with more practice it will hopefully become more natural for me.

I would say that's it but don't slow down too much -it's basically triplets. I would recommend practicing it slowly and accurately, then play along with the original track, or lesson.

Thank you for ordering the lesson!

    All the best- Jim
  • OK thanks Jim. Would you say the line preceding this section is in 16th notes (or quads)? perhaps i'm finding it difficult to go from quads to triplets.

but yes i'll keep at it with a slow metronome until it gels.
  • OK. so the trick for me was to slow down the recording a good bit and getting the "rest" in between the 2 parts. the rest is what was throwing me off. too little or too much and the "open string phrase" just doesn't come off right.

anyway. loving this piece. it'll take a bit, but I'm loving having the entire main theme section done. just need to speed it up and start working on the bridge and solo next.
  • halouis- That's great news. If possible, post it when it's ship shape. Thank you- Jim
