Backburner Intro & Gear?

Just wondering about the intro to Backburner, off of Orange? How are those sounds created? Thought I had read somewhere that there were no effect pedals used on the album.

Also, what gear was used on that track? The tone and the playing on it are great! Love that song!

    That was a "Stephan Crump Pedal" ... that intro was played on an upright bass with a bow.

    Upright Bass? Cool. That would explain why I couldn't figure how to get that sound
