  • If you're looking for MORE breakup, do NOT use JJ 6V6s... they are great tubes, but have higher headroom than the other 6V6s. They are actually thought of as "little 6L6s"
  • Martin,

The Roland CUBE-80GX 80W 1x12 Guitar Combo Amp Black is only $399 on Musicians Friend. I am going to Guitar Center tomorrow to play through a few different amps - see how it goes. Thanks for all the feedback.

  • Hi Nick,

Yeah I looked up the other one, the Artist was it? If you like the Roland Cube then yeah they're reliable and fairly priced solid state amps and the onboard FX can be fun if you fancy playing around with some of that stuff. For the similar money I'd much sooner get the Fender Blues Junior. They're small and portable and tube preamp and power stage. I've known people to do play pretty large venues with them and they can sound really good. Of course they dont have onboard FX but are a good platform if you want to add pedals into your set up. You can also pick them up used in the UK for modest amounts. But maybe that's not the road you want to go down. Either way, I'm sure you'll find something your ears like the sound of. Good luck with it :)

The Blues Jr is definitely on my list.

    Thanks,
