1st 10 Gallon Cats record: amp?

edited June 2015 in Root
Jim, I was just listening to the 1st 10GC record, and was wondering- do you happen to remember what amp(s) you used on that one? Just one of your Princetons, or...?

  • My guess is a vibrolux, but that is pure speculation.
  • ...listening closely today, I feel like the high end is a little rounder than on Jim's solo stuff, especially Orange. Jim's highs are never ice-picky, but I feel like there is more "edge" to the highs on Orange (for example) than on 10GC.

It could just as easily be the mixing, I guess.... but that's what we guitarists do! Fret over minutiae! It's kind of an involuntary hobby...lol
  • 70's Vibrolux Reverb (there is one solid state rectifier instead of a tube)
  • Thanks! That's one of Fender's "holy grail" amps. I know they reissued it for a short while, but it was the 63' they reissued apparently. I've been hearing great things about the new "silverface" 68 Custom Vibrolux ..... people say it's closer sounding to the vintage SF VL's, much more so than the "Custom Vibrolux Reverb" (that was just replaced by the '68) was....

  • BTW- GOOD EAR, cwilliams!!
