RIP, Merle Haggard

I know Jim was a fan, which is why I'm posting it here. One of music's greatest poets.

I think rather than post my thought, Merle's son Ben posted on his FB page:

"A week ago dad told us he was gonna pass on his birthday, and he wasn't wrong. A hour ago he took his last breath surrounded by family and friends. He loved everything about life and he loved that everyone of you gave him a chance with his music. He wasn't just a country singer.. He was the best country singer that ever lived."

Go with God, Merle. And THANK YOU.

I really love Merle's stuff in the 60's and the LP "Lonesome Fugitive" is a great place to start for the uninitiated. He also wrote a great, surprisingly honest autobiography. The people he discusses - write a follow up chapter, including his ex wife Bonnie Owens and others.
  • Yes, I've read his autobiography, and it is one of the more "honest" ones I have ever read.
