Orange Ltd Edition Fender Princeton. A coincidence?

edited August 2011 in General
Hi everyone. Do you guys think the ltd edition Orange Princetons are related to the release of Jim's new album? I think they looked strange when I first saw them. Now i'm getting turned on to the idea of one. Any thoughts or am I better getting the black one?

  • You know...I don't think the Orange Ltd. edition Princeton is an entire coincidence. I know fender does do some limited color versions of some amps but I'm sure they went orange after seeing the Orange Campilongo Princeton that they made a very limited quantity of. If you like the Orange one get it but that's a VERY personal question. :)
  • I think you're right. I think Jim's demo video and stunning playing have sold that amp more than any other marketing Fender could have done. I am guessing he will sone have one to to add to his collection. I saw a NAAM interview where Jim was talking about his guitar and he was plugged into an orange princeton.
  • I've got one of the Orange Princeton's. I love it! Love having something that no one else in my area has :) And it sounds great! I did change the speaker out for a Tone Tubby though.
  • No coincidence... Shane Nichols who is head of Fender amp division made this amazing nod to my last record "Orange" ... I have one too...

I know this is an oldie, but... I'm about to buy a PRRI in Orange- one of the "Campilongo Reissues" lol, and was wondering what is the stock speaker? C10Q? C10N? C10R? "Fender Special Design" doesn't tell me anything lol

    Nevermind... just stumbled onto this:

    ...it's a C10R

While I'm late to the game here, I've had an orange Fender PRRI for over a year and it sounds great, the nice thing is the 2010 FSR Campilongo edition is it's 15-watts into 8-ohms as opposed to the current blackface version's 12-watts into 8-ohms, you can really open these amps up by swapping out the factory tubes for a good matched set, I went with Electro-Harmonix Gold pins, I replaced the anemic speaker connector with Evidence Audio 15AWG wire, not that the stock ceramic Jensen didn't sound good but I swapped it out for a Weber 10A125 10" AlNiCo speaker which adds a touch of Brownface snarl...the other day I was playing onstage with a guitarist running through a Diaz Classic and the other guy was running a boutique clone of the Fender tweed late 50's Super amp and my PRRI cut through them like a knife...a great reliable workhorse amp in a small package...
  • Since it's breaking in, I rather like the stock Jensen C12R... for clean tones. When you turn up the volume, it can't handle the bass, and gets flubby and ratty. Was thinking of replacing it with the Weber 12F150, which is their "take" on the old Jensen C12N. Jim says the N can handle the higher volume and bass. And I'm going with Weber over Jensen because in general, it seems the Webers are held in slightly higher regard than the Webers. (I'm talking the Jensen Reissues.)

I'm surprised Jim has never tried a Weber... or at least hasn't mentioned it if he has...
